Service Oriented Architectures Using DoDAF1

چکیده
This paper describes how the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) can be used for describing a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). With acceptance of NetworkCentric Warfare (NCW) and “net-centricity”, the Department of Defense (DoD) is moving towards operational and systems designs based on dynamic producer/consumer models consistent with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is an architectural approach to application integration that enables flexible connectivity of applications or resources implemented as services. Such services have well-defined, platformindependent interfaces that hide the underlying technical complexity of the environment (encapsulation), are self-contained (loosely coupled), and reusable. DoDAF does not prescribe any particular methodology or process (SOA or otherwise) for creating the actual architecture model, but only the elements and relationships that any given methodology would use. Tailoring of the DoDAF elements and relationships, which DoDAF allows, is necessary to meet the SOA paradigm shift. Further, creating DoDAF architecture descriptions that are service orientated supports globalization and the integration of geographically dispersed organizations (Net-centricity).

A Reference Architecture for Automation of Inter-Organizational Process-Oriented Collaboration
In today’s competitive, dynamic, and changing business environment, being able to collaborate globally within and beyond the enterprise borders is critical. Inter-Organizational Collaborations (IOCs) have been proposed as a response to the characteristics of highly competitive global business environments. So far, a number of reference models, frameworks, and ad hoc architectures related to som...
متن کاملUsing graph grammars for interaction style description: applications for service-oriented architectures
Applications with run-time changing architectures constitute a challenge for both modelling and reasoning. Their description is not limited to the specification of a unique static topology but must cover the scope of all the correct configurations. We develop, in this paper, the concept of architectural styles to achieve this goal. We elaborate and specify the basic architectural styles for the...
متن کاملAligning Service-Oriented Architectures with Security Requirements
Aligning requirements and architectures is a long-standing concern in software engineering. Alignment is crucial in the area of systems evolution, wherein requirements and system architectures keep changing after system deployment. We address a specific alignment problem, i.e., checking the compliance of a service-oriented architecture— representing a composite service—with security requirement...
متن کاملRequirements for privacy-enhancing Service-oriented architectures
Service-oriented architectures expose new chances and challenges for privacy and data protection. The potentially increased distribution of personal information across multiple domains make subject access requests difficult to handle. Which service did process what data? Whom to address for liability issues? At the same time, the service orientation offers a new approach for the granularity of ...
متن کاملService-Oriented Architectures and Mobile Services
Service-Oriented architectures and Service-Oriented Computing are the most recent approaches aiming at facilitating the design and development of applications on distributed systems. The primary goal of this paper is to investigate how the construction of mobile services can benefit from the Service-Oriented paradigm. The paper provides an elucidation of the ServiceOriented architecture. A gene...
